Emmitsburg COVID-19 Response Updated 06/01/2020

As of June 1, 2020 there are 19 reported cases of COVID-19 in the 21727.

LATEST UPDATES:

  • Town offices will remain closed to walk in services through July 3, 2020.
  • Spring Bulk Trash Pickup has been rescheduled for June 20, 2020.
  • The Emmitsburg Community Pool opening date and pricing have not been determined.  Mayor Briggs is continuing to review and assess Governor Hogan and CE Jan Gardner’s executive orders. 
  • Playgrounds & restrooms in the Town parks have been reopened. Governor Hogan's order prohibits groups of more than 10. Please remember social distancing and hand washing guidelines.

  • The Town, in collaboration with Frederick County, announced a temporary outdoor seating permit. This allows restaurants and other businesses to expand their seating areas outside of the building, including; sidewalks, common areas, and parking for up to 12 months or until the State of Emergency is lifted.  Please contact the Town Planner, Zach Gulden, at zgulden@emmitsburgmd.gov for more information.  
  • Jump Start Frederick County Business Grants Program: Jump Start Business Grants are designed to provide financial assistance to Frederick County for-profit businesses and nonprofit organizations, full-time farmers and Sole Proprietors (with commercial space) that have experienced significant financial loss caused directly or indirectly by the COVID 19 public health emergency. Eligible uses include expenditures related to reimburse for the costs of business interruption caused by the required business closures due to COVID 19. Currently these grants have a total of $5M to be awarded.  Visit Jump Start Frederick County for full details.
  • Frederick County launched a new online dashboard that allows the public to track local COVID-19 statistics. The dashboard includes charts and data about testing, cases, and hospitalizations, which will be updated daily. Visit the Frederick County COVID-19 page and click statistics.

SUMMARY OF TOWN COVID-19 RESPONSE:

The town office is closed to walk-in services through July 3, 2020. Town staff will be available by phone (301-600-6300) or email Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The town office will be closed Fridays. Town staff will continue to monitor all voicemails and emails outside of business hours.

Water/Sewer/Trash Bills:
  • The first quarter water/sewer/trash bills were mailed on May 18, 2020. Due to the delayed mailing, the water bill due date has been extended to June 24, 2020. 
  • The mailing of the bills is delayed however the billing period remains the same. You should expect a bill similar to what you normally receive.
  • We recently installed an additional drop box. Its located at the rear of the Emmitsburg Community Center (near the double glass doors) and can be used for water/sewer bill payments. If you would like a receipt, please write your phone number or email address on your payment for staff.

  • To get back on schedule the second quarter water/sewer/trash bills will go out June 30, 2020 with a pending due date of August 5, 2020.

Other:
  • Water, sewer and public works services will remain operative; however, employees will have limited working hours.
  • Rainbow Lake fishing permits will be available by email only. Any person wishing to get a fishing permit should email a copy of their state issued fishing license to  mshaw@emmitsburgmd.gov.
  • Basic zoning permits are available online. Refer to the permitting page or email zgulden@emmitsburgmd.gov for more information.
